Mrs. Angela Mayes
Welcome! My name is Angela Gooch Mayes. Beginning with the 2021-2022 school year I have had the privilege of working with the students, faculty, and staff at Elkton School for thirty years. This year marks my sixth year working as an interventionist teaching grades K-8 math and reading. Previously, I have taught all subjects, worked with kids in fourth, fifth, and sixth grades, and been a school counselor. Helping students transition from struggling to proficient in math and reading gives me a true sense of accomplishment.
Giles County Tennessee has always been my home. I grew up on a farm in the Stella community, attended elementary school at Minor Hill School, and graduated from Giles County High School in 1983. Upon graduation I enrolled in Columbia State Community College and received my Associates Degree in Office Administration in 1985. After working in banking for five years, I decided to return to college at Middle Tennessee State University. I received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in elementary education in December, 1991, and my Master’s in curriculum and instruction in 1994 from MTSU. I also attended Tennessee State University and Cumberland University earning a +45 in 1997.
Family is also an important part of my life. I have been married for twenty years to my husband, Randy. We have one son, Austin.
